TO ACKNOWLEDGE, THANK AND PASS IT FORWARD
Sappho New Paradigm operates from the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ / sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations.
SAPPHO New Paradigm has chosen 3 areas to express our gratitude for the opportunity to serve you with our products and to be able to further causes that are close to our hearts.
We love art and believe it is important for our society and individuals to have access to it. Locally, in Vancouver, there are two initiatives we wish to financially contribute to:
- The Urban Native Youth Organization runs an a program called Overly Creative Minds offering teens a studio from which to learn not only traditional Native art but any medium they feel a need to pursue.
- The Eastside Culture Crawl runs an art program, Studio 101, placing East Vancouver inner city school children with professional artists in their studios for a week, working alongside the artist to create a finished product and a non-traditional tour of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Partial proceeds from the sales of our Skin Luminizers will be donated to both these programs.
“Urban Native Youth Association UNYA is the centre of Indigenous youth excellence, supporting youth on their journeys by amplifying and celebrating their voices. UNYA's focus since its inception in 1988 has been to provide meaningful opportunities for Indigenous youth (Aboriginal, Metis, Inuit, First Nations, Status, Non-Status) in the urban setting. Our goal is to be a safe place for Indigenous youth to come and find out about programs and services at UNYA and in the broader community. UNYA strives to support Indigenous youth by providing a diverse continuum of advocacy, preventative and support services that respond to their immediate and long-term needs. Today, UNYA delivers 20+ programs, with 175+ volunteers, 100 staff, and more than 300 community partners.”
In keeping with our Canadian inspiration, our luminizer boxes feature colors chosen by members of the Urban Native Youth Association, to reflect traditional Haida Nation/ Coast Salish -inspired red and green/blue tones.
Our 3rd charity is one we have supported for over 10 years, starting with the original Sappho Organics brand: Toronto-based Breast Cancer Support Fund. This organization offers concrete financial support to those with breast cancer for such things as baby-sitting, taxis to chemo or even covering their heating bill. We believe that many cancers are human-made and we owe a debt to those that suffer from it, to help them as much as possible. Partial proceeds from the Canadian sales of our Silky Setting Powder will go to the Breast Cancer Support Fund to help those in need.
